Krystal Ball: Not wrong for people to feel Trump doesn’t support NATO

Hill.TV host Krystal Ball said on Wednesday that it is not wrong to think President Trump does not support NATO’s mission, based on his past comments about the alliance.

“This is an area where the president has been incredibly consistent for many, many years,” Ball told co-host Buck Sexton on “Rising.”

“He’s been very skeptical of NATO, so I don’t think it’s wrong for people to feel like he does not fundamentally support the mission here, and when you look at his statements, for example, on Russia’s annexation of Crimea, which violates a sort of fundamental principle of NATO and our Western alliance,” she continued.

Ball’s comments come as Trump meets with NATO allies in Brussels.

Trump began the summit on Wednesday launching attacks on other NATO members, calling them “delinquent” and saying they owe the U.S. a “tremendous amount of money.”

The president railed against NATO during his 2016 presidential campaign, saying the organization was obsolete and has cost the U.S. too much money.
