Christine Todd Whitman: Trump should step down over Putin press conference
Christine Todd Whitman, a former GOP governor from New Jersey, called on President Trump to step down following his controversial press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
Whitman, who served in President George W. Bush’s administration as Environmental Protection Agency chief and has been a frequent critic of the current president, called Trump’s actions at a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin “irrational and dangerous.”
{mosads}“Mr President, you should be ashamed,” Todd Whitman, who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, said on Twitter. “To deny your own country and government in favor of a foreign leader whose country has, for decades, tried to undermine the United States is irrational and dangerous.”
“Please step down, you are not fit to lead this great nation,” Todd Whitman continued.
Mr #President, you should be ashamed. To deny your own country and government in favor of a foriegn leader whose country has, for decades, tried to undermine the #UnitedStates is irrational and dangerous. Please step down, you are not fit to lead this great #nation. #TrumpPutin

Todd Whitman has battled with Trump over climate policy. Unlike many within the Republican Party, she believes the GOP should tackle the issue of climate change.
She joins a number of Republicans in criticizing Putin’s performance at the Helsinki press conference, including Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Ben Sasse (Neb.) and Richard Burr (N.C.), the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
