Democratic pollster Ken O’Brien said Tuesday that despite questionable documents used in a 2016 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against a former Trump campaign adviser, voters still trust the FBI and want to see the Russia investigation resolved.
“There [are] the concerns over … the FISA court’s warrant against [Carter Page] to investigate him during the campaign,” O’Brien told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking,” when asked about bias in U.S. intelligence agencies.
“Now, given that the Steel dossier was used as a reference point, multiple instances in that warrant … there is serious concern there,” he added.
The Department of Justice this month released federal documents used in obtaining a warrant against Page during the 2016 presidential campaign. Those documents included the unverified dossier, compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, that alleges ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
But despite concerns surrounding the FISA warrant, O’Brien said, special counsel Robert Mueller should be allowed to complete his Russia probe.
“The fact that a plurality of Americans, or a majority of Democrats at least, they still trust the FBI — we need to let Bob Mueller complete his investigation, and we need to get some answers about this,” he said. “We can keep talking about the small little details here, but what matters to the American people is that we resolve this issue.”
