Morning Consult political reporter Eli Yokley said on Friday that President Trump’s approval rating among African-Americans has fallen, suggesting that it could be tied to his criticism of NFL players who protest during the national anthem.
“It’s gotten worse among African-Americans. He’s losing African-Americans,” Yokley told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“I think a lot of it might be how this NFL thing that he keeps dabbling in, about the player protests. I don’t think President Trump is showing that he understands what this protest is about, as he evidenced on Twitter this week,” he continued.
A Politico/Morning Consult poll released this week found that only 6 percent of African-Americans strongly approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while 61 percent said they strongly disapprove of the job he’s doing.
Trump on Friday took to Twitter to renew his attacks on NFL players who protest racial injustice and police brutality during the national anthem at games. On Thursday, players on several teams protested during “The Star Spangled-Banner.”
“The NFL players are at it again — taking a knee when they should be standing proudly for the National Anthem,” the president tweeted.
“Be happy, be cool! A football game, that fans are paying soooo much money to watch and enjoy, is no place to protest,” he continued. “Most of that money goes to the players anyway.”
“Find another way to protest. Stand proudly for your National Anthem or be Suspended Without Pay!” Trump added.
The NFL players are at it again – taking a knee when they should be standing proudly for the National Anthem. Numerous players, from different teams, wanted to show their “outrage” at something that most of them are unable to define. They make a fortune doing what they love……
