Dem lawmaker calls Trump racist in response to ‘dog’ comment
Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) slammed President Trump on Wednesday for calling former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman a “dog.”
Wilson sent a tweet putting the focus on Trump, saying “there are many names we can call you” in response to the insult.
“Racist. Hater. Traitor. Bigot. Misogynist. Liar,” she wrote.

Trump and White House officials have gone on the offensive against Manigault Newman in recent days since she began a tour to promote her new tell-all book “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House.”

The book, which details her time as a White House staffer, includes a number of controversial claims about Trump that have prompted a furious response from the president, who called her a “crazed, crying lowlife” and “dog” Tuesday on Twitter.
Manigault Newman has also released tapes of conversations she had with campaign staffers, White House chief of staff John Kelly and Trump himself.
Wilson and Trump have clashed before.
Trump and Kelly feuded with the Democratic congresswoman last year after she shared details of a phone call she overheard between the president and the widow of a fallen serviceman in which Trump said that the soldier “knew what he was signing up for.”
Wilson slammed the comment as insensitive to the grieving family, criticism Trump dismissed, tweeting, “The Fake News is going crazy with wacky Congresswoman Wilson(D), who was SECRETLY on a very personal call, and gave a total lie on content!”
Other lawmakers, including some Republicans, have criticized Trump’s “dog” remark about Manigault Newman, an insult that he has repeated in reference to a number of public figures in the past.
Trump ally Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Wednesday said the comments were beneath the office of the president.
“No, I’m not comfortable with that. I don’t think words like that should be used especially by the president … I think he should rise above that,” he told CNN.
“The president has said a number of things about individuals who are not African American”. —Sarah Huckabee Sanders. And that makes calling @OMAROSA a “dog” ok? You cannot spin Trump out of his bigoted slur. #justplainwrong #shame

Trump’s calling Omarosa a dog doesn’t make him a racist; it makes him a fool. He’s called many people dogs, including Mitt Romney, David Gregory &Chuck Todd. But here, Trump was winning. Even Trump’s opponents didn’t believe her. Then he counterpunched so hard, he hit himself.
