Fox News host dismisses guest who said Trump calling Omarosa a ‘dog’ was a compliment

A Fox News host on Tuesday quickly shut down The Washington Times’s Charlie Hurt, who said that President Trump calling ex-White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman a “dog” was a compliment.

Trump attacked Manigault Newman in a tweet last week as excerpts from her tell-all memoir dominated headlines.

{mosads}“When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out,” he tweeted. “Good work by [chief of staff John] Kelly for quickly firing that dog!”

On “America’s Newsroom” on Fox News, guests including Hurt and former State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf discussed celebrity criticism of Trump after a number of swipes at the president at the MTV Video Music Awards Monday night.

“Look, Donald Trump says incredibly offensive things on Twitter,” Harf said. “Suddenly we want standards for everybody else, but not the president who calls women ‘dogs’ and says terrible things about people?”

As the participants began talking over each other, Hurt can be heard saying that he thinks “dog” is a compliment.

“I really think ‘dog’ is a compliment. If you called me ‘my dog,’” Hurt said before being cut off by host Eric Shawn.

“No, no, that’s not a compliment, Charlie,” Shawn said.

Manigault Newman makes a number of striking allegations against the president in her new book “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House,” including accusing him of being a racist and a misogynist and claiming that he repeatedly used the N-word on the set of “The Apprentice.” The White House has denied the accusations and says that the fired White House aide is making up stories to drive book sales.
