Democratic pollster Anna Greenberg said on Tuesday that female candidates and elected officials tend to be viewed as more honest and less corrupt, which she said could help them going into November’s midterm elections.
“There’s pretty compelling research that shows that women candidates and women elected are more honest, less corrupt, and people are so frustrated with politics and politicians in Washington, which they always are, but it’s even worse now,” Greenberg told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball on “What America’s Thinking.”
“So women actually get a bit of a boost because in general people tend to think of women as kind of more transparent, more honest, less corrupt, have sort of more pure values if you will, and that is an antidote to sort of the corrupt politics in Washington,” she continued.
Greenberg’s comments come as an unprecedented number of women are running for office.
Research has shown a correlation between less corruption and women’s participation in government.
A study published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization found that there was less corruption in countries with more women in government.
