Read the indictment against GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) and his wife Margaret were indicted Tuesday on charges that they misused more than $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses.
Prosecutors allege that the couple used funds to buy trips to Italy and Hawaii, pay for dental work for the family, their children’s tuition and travel for nearly a dozen relatives.
The GOP lawmaker is also accused of falsifying campaign records to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to conceal personal purchases by mischaracterizing them as “‘campaign travel,’ ‘dinner with volunteers/contributors,’ ‘toy drives,’ ‘teacher/parent and supporter events,’ ‘gift cards’ for charitable donations, and ‘gift basket items,’ among other false descriptions,” the Justice Department said.
