Monica Lewinsky to appear in Clinton impeachment docuseries

Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky will appear in an upcoming docuseries detailing the investigation that led to a vote to impeach former President Clinton in December of 1998.

A news release from A&E says that the series, tentatively titled “The Impeachment of Bill Clinton,” will feature “never-before-seen archival footage” of Lewinsky and Clinton as well as new interviews with subjects close to the scandal.

{mosads}Lewinsky’s contribution to the project will include a “timely, in-depth” reflection on her time in the White House, according to the network. The project’s director, Blair Foster, interviewed dozens of political players and journalists connected to the scandal for the series.

“I thought I knew a lot about President Clinton’s impeachment because I lived through it. However, when I began this project, I quickly realized much of what I thought I knew was incomplete, or worse, inaccurate,” Foster said in a news release.

“My goal for this series was to do a deep dive into the facts and speak to as many people as possible who were involved. The deeper I got the clearer it became that this series is as much about the present day as it is about the 1990s,” she continued.

Foster added that members of the Clinton family were “aware” of the project but declined to participate.

Clinton lost an impeachment vote in the House in December 1998, but the Senate failed to convict him on charges of perjury and he remained in office.

Lewinsky’s sexual relationship with Clinton become a national fixation after her friend, Linda Tripp, secretly recorded their conversations.

The former intern has since kept a relatively low profile, but has re-emerged in recent years as an advocate against bullying and sexism.
