Poll: Majority believes top Trump aides work behind his back to rein him in

Most Americans believe President Trump’s aides work behind his back to rein him in, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released Monday.

Fifty-five percent of respondents told pollsters they believe the anonymous allegations put out in a New York Times op-ed last week that senior aides to the president work to thwart his excesses and curb his worst instincts.

However, 51 percent also told Quinnipiac that they disapproved of the op-ed’s author writing anonymously, compared to 38 percent who approved.

{mosads}”American voters believe those tales of intrigue coming from the Trump White House, but they think it’s wrong to tell those tales anonymously,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Though the majority of Americans believes The New York Times op-ed, which sharply criticizes Trump’s “amorality,” the survey did not reveal a tremendous change in the president’s approval numbers from August or June.

Fifty-four percent of respondents said they disapprove of Trump and 38 percent approved in the poll released Monday.

The Quinnipiac University National Poll reported Monday was conducted from September 6-9 and surveyed 1,038 voters over the phone. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
