Norm Macdonald: Women upset over Louis CK’s surprise set could get over it with $200 for shoes

Norm Macdonald, under fire for his criticism of the “Me Too” movement and defense of his friends, fellow comedians Louis C.K. and Roseanne Barr, says that women upset with C.K.’s recent unannounced set at the Comedy Cellar would get over it with $200 for new shoes.

A couple of women who attended the show told Vulture that they were uncomfortable with the situation, given that C.K. had admitted in 2017 to masturbating in front of women without their permission. C.K. previously apologized for his actions, but many felt that he had not spent enough time out of the spotlight, performing less than a year after the allegations went public.

{mosads}”I think they could get through the trauma if they were paid $200 and could buy some nice shoes,” Macdonald told USA Today in an interview published Wednesday.

“Those women should get their money back, because I know it was a surprise set” Macdonald said. “If some women were upset, the Comedy Cellar should give them their money back and $200 each.”

The women told Vulture that most people in the audience seemed happy with C.K.’s set, including a joke about rape whistles, but they did not appreciate being put in that position.

“Everyone around me was laughing,” one of the women told Vulture. “That was just depressing.”

Macdonald pointed to the audience’s generally positive reaction to C.K.’s set in earlier remarks to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I wasn’t there, but everything I heard about it was that he did very well,” he said.

“The Tonight Show” canceled Macdonald’s appearance Tuesday night over his comments to the Reporter, which included defenses of C.K. and Barr, who was fired from her ABC sitcom earlier this year over a racist tweet about a former Obama White House adviser.

Macdonald has since apologized for those remarks.
