Huckabee: VP Vetter Dust-Up Isn’t A Big Deal

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) downplayed the importance of Jim Johnson’s resignation from Barack Obama’s campaign.

Johnson was on Obama’s vice presidential selection team until Wednesday, when he stepped down amid criticism that he had served as a lobbyist and taken loans from Countrywide Financial, the mortgage firm blamed partly for the housing crisis.

Huckabee, a supporter of John McCain, said on Fox News Thursday that the story matters more to insiders than to most Americans.

“I agree with those who say this isn’t that big a deal,” Huckabee said. “I doubt there’s a single dinner table in America where the name Jim Johnson came up. I seriously doubt the swing voters in the swing states, like Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Arkansas — those are not conversations and issues that are going to determine who people vote for. They don’t really care who vets it out.”

He continued: “For example, I bet if you ask the average American who was in charge of George Bush’s process of picking a vice president, most people wouldn’t know. It was Dick Cheney.”
