Durbin: ‘No reason’ for people to remember Kavanaugh at party accuser describes

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Sunday that there is no reason for the four people Christine Blasey Ford says attended the high school party at which she alleges Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her to remember the event.

“It’s no surprise,” Durbin said on ABC’s “This Week” when asked what he thought about the fact that none of the four people Ford says attended the party corroborated Ford’s story. He added that there is “no reason” why someone would remember it if they “had no occurrence like the … one that was stated by Dr. Ford.”

All four of the other people Ford alleges attended the party, which she says took place sometime in the early 1980s, have denied being there.{mosads}

Leland Keyser, a longtime friend of Ford’s, said Saturday that she “does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford.”

The other three people Ford says were at the party — Mark Judge, P.J. Smyth, and Kavanaugh — have all also denied attending any party like the one Ford described. 

Ford has said she does not remember exactly when or where the party occurred, how she got there, or what she did when she left.

Durbin said Sunday that that he did not know what would be a fair standard of proof to corroborate Ford’s allegations, adding that it may come down to something similar to Justice Potter Stewart’s definition of obscenity, that “you know it when you see it.”
