The Secret Service reported earlier Wednesday that “potential explosive devices” were intercepted in the mail before they made it to the Clintons’s home in New York and Obama’s home in D.C.
{mosads}The service “immediately identified [the devices] during routine mail screening procedures” and they were “appropriately handled,” the agency said in a statement.
The agency added that Obama and Clinton “did not receive the packages nor were they at risk of receiving them.”
Also on Wednesday, CNN said it received a suspicious package at its offices in New York City, causing the Time Warner building in which their offices are housed to be evacuated.
The White House issued a statement on Wednesday morning condemning the packages.
“We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures. These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.
