Camerawoman who went viral for tripping refugees acquitted in Hungary

A Hungarian camerawoman who was recorded in a viral video tripping and kicking refugees in 2015 was acquitted by the country’s Supreme Court on Tuesday, according to CNN.

Petra Laszlo was fired from her job and sentenced in Jan. 2017 to three years of probation after video showed her kicking a child who was running and knocking over a man who was running while carrying a child. The city’s public prosecutor’s office found Laszlo guilty of a “breach of peace,” CNN reported.

{mosads}The Supreme Court, however, ruled that Laszlo’s act “while morally incorrect and illicit, was a disruption, not vandalism,” acquitting her on Tuesday.

The court ruled Tuesday that Laszlo, instead, should have been charged with the regulatory offense of “causing disturbance.”

Laszlo, a few days after the incident, apologized in a letter to the Magyar Nemzet newspaper. “As I re-watch the film, it seems as if it was not even me,” she said in her letter.

Laszlo was covering the wave of migrants crossing the Hungary-Serbia border in 2015 for the nationalist N1TV station.
