No Labels to host nominating convention in Dallas in April: Joe Lieberman
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Sunday that the political organization No Labels is scheduled to hold its nominating convention in Dallas next April.
Lieberman, the founding chairman of No Labels, told host Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday” that the organization will only pursue its bipartisan ticket if the third party had a shot at winning the election. He said that the group’s goal is to get on the ballot in all 50 states to offer a “unity ticket.”
“This fall, we’re going to bring together a process that will be open, where we’ll begin to consider what that ticket might be, who might be on the ticket,” he said. “And we will offer this line — if we think next year, as the race clarifies and really, if it is Trump and Biden — whether we want to go forward and run according to the standards that I mentioned just a few moments ago. And we already have scheduled a bipartisan convention.”
“Think about it. We haven’t seen that ever in recent history. A bipartisan nominating convention for Dallas, Texas, in April of next year,” he added.
Lieberman reiterated that polls show that voters want an alternative to President Biden and former President Trump, who are the front-runners for the 2024 election. However, he noted that the organization’s push for a bipartisan ticket is not meant to be a “spoiler” for the 2024 presidential election.
“If we run it’s going to be a bipartisan ticket, so not only will we have concluded that it really can win, but because it’s bipartisan we’re confident it’s going to take equally from both parties, so the idea that we’re going to spoil it and reelect President Trump just isn’t realistic,” Lieberman said.
No Labels has been pushing for a bipartisan ticket to land a third-party bid to the White House and has recently launched a campaign in New Hampshire. The group has also stoked fears among Democrats that its third-party push will create headaches for Biden’s campaign.
Ben Chavis, the Democratic co-chairman of No Labels, also told NBC News in June that the group “is not and will not be a spoiler in favor of Donald Trump in 2024.”
No Labels confirmed to The Hill at the time it will end its third-party push if Biden is ahead in the polls next spring.
