Sunday shows preview: Trump-John Roberts dispute, Ivanka emails in spotlight
President Trump’s battle with Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts dominated headlines this week as the president engaged in a war of words with the top justice on the highest court in the land.
Trump hammered Roberts for two days through the Thanksgiving holiday this week after the justice issued a statement last week chastising the president for his criticism of “Obama judges” following Trump’s criticism of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in California.
{mosads}”Please study the numbers, they are shocking” Trump tweeted at Roberts on Wednesday. “Sorry Chief Justice John Roberts, but you do indeed have “Obama judges,” and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country.”
Trump’s criticism followed a rare statement from Roberts last week, in which the chief justice wrote that the U.S. doesn’t have “Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges.”
Three senators on the Judiciary Committee, Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) will join ABC, Fox News, and NBC this week, respectively, where they will likely discuss the back-and-forth between Trump and the top judge.
Revelations that White House aide Ivanka Trump used a personal email for official business last year will also likely be discussed, as Democrats have threatened investigations into the issue of whether classified information was sent or received by her personal account next year.
Reps. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the top members of the House Oversight committee will join CBS and CNN respectively, while Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the incoming chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, will appear on NBC.
