President Trump’s lawyers want $340K from Stormy Daniels

Lawyers for President Trump are requesting that Stormy Daniels pay them $340,000 in legal fees after her defamation suit against the president failed earlier this year, according to The Associated Press.

The attorneys are expected to argue in a Los Angeles federal courtroom on Monday that the case was costly to them because of tactics employed by Michael Avenatti, Daniels’s lawyer, and that Daniels should have to pay for that.

{mosads}U.S. District Judge S. James Otero in October dismissed the lawsuit brought by Daniels, an adult-film star who alleged that Trump defamed her with a tweet he sent in April. 

Daniels, who has claimed she had an affair with Trump years ago, said she was threatened in 2011 by a man who warned her not to bring up that alleged affair. 

Daniels released a sketch of that man, and Trump later tweeted that the sketch was a “total con job.” He shared a photo of Daniels with her ex-husband, suggesting that the ex-husband was the same person as the man Daniels said threatened her. 

Otero ruled that Trump’s tweet was hyperbole, not defamation.

Trump’s lawyers now argue that they are owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees. Trump’s attorney Charles Harder wrote in a court filing that Daniels’s suit was “virtually unprecedented in American legal history,” according to the AP.

“[Daniels] not only brought a meritless claim for defamation against the sitting president of the United States, but she also has engaged, along with her attorney, in massive national publicity,” he added.
