Sheriff calls Trump’s attitude while surrendering ‘stoic’

In an interview on CNN Friday, Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat described Donald Trump’s demeanor when surrendering at the Fulton County Jail as unemotional.

“He came out, he was very stoic, really in a space that he was able to really lean on what we were doing, what we planned, and so we took his mug shot, took his fingerprints, as we would anybody else,” Labat said

Labat said the process of Trump’s surrender that occurred a few weeks ago made him upset. He said this emotion was due to seeing someone of the former president’s stature going through the process.

“It was heartbreaking to see someone of that statute, and who represents our country in that fashion, having to go through this,” Labat said.

Trump surrendered just a few weeks ago at the jail in Fulton County, Ga. in District Attorney Fani Willis’ case against him and 18 other co-defendants related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. While there, he had his mug shot taken, the first known of a president.

The former president and his campaign have been fundraising off the infamous picture. His campaign has brought in $2 million since the release.
