President Trump, first lady attend Christmas service at National Cathedral

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump attended Christmas service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., on Monday night.

The Trumps were escorted to a front pew of the church as services began, with the president wearing his overcoat, according to a White House pool report.

{mosads}The Christmas Eve service, which began at 10 p.m., includes readings from the Holy Scripture, hymns, and choral and instrumental music, according to an event description. 

The service is described as “one of most beautiful services of the year” on the cathedral’s website.

Last year, the president and first lady attended a Christmas Eve service at an Episcopal church in Palm Beach, Fla., CBS New York reported.

This year, Trump has remained in Washington instead of going to Mar-a-Lago amid the partial government shutdown, which began Friday. 

The first lady flew back from Florida earlier on Monday to join him for Christmas Eve.

The Trumps for the first part of the evening joined the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) call center remotely from the White House, taking calls about Santa’s whereabouts from children. 

Trump raised eyebrows when he asked one of the children calling Santa Clause at NORAD whether he still believed in Santa.

That concluded an eventful day for the president, who made news earlier with a series of tweets that attacked various targets, including the Federal Reserve over the ailing stock market and Democrats over the government shutdown.
