Youngkin raises more than $7 million ahead of next month’s Virginia Legislature elections
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R) PAC said Wednesday it raised more than $7 million in the third quarter as the governor looks to boost down-ballot candidates running in the commonwealth’s legislative elections in November.
According to Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC, the governor raised $4.4 million in 48 hours this week. The group said Youngkin also donated $500,000 of his own money.
CBS News, which was the first outlet to report on the fundraising haul, reported that billionaire Jeff Yass donated $2 million to the PAC. The outlet also reported that GOP megadonor Thomas Peterffy donated $1 million this quarter.
The haul brings the Spirit of Virginia PAC’s cash-on-hand total to $7 million.
“Governor Youngkin has now raised $15.5 million since March 1, 2023, to support our candidates,” said Dave Rexrode, chairman of the Spirit of Virginia PAC. “Due to our incredible nominees, the opportunity we have to move Virginia forward, and our generous donors, we have already surpassed our own internal goal for the year, but we have more work to do.”
All 140 seats in Virginia’s state Senate and House of Delegates are up for election next month. Earlier this week, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee announced it was pouring $2 million in the races in an effort to boost Democratic candidates.
