Donors chip in to pay Fyre Festival caterer
A caterer of the failed Fyre Festival has raised more than $100,000 through a GoFundMe page after she says she wasn’t paid for her work at the unsuccessful event.
Maryann Rolle, owner of the Exuma Point Bar and Grille in the Bahamas, wrote on the GoFundMe page that she was not paid despite catering nearly 1,000 meals per day in April 2017 for the festival.
{mosads}”As I make this plea it’s hard to believe and embarrassing to admit that I was not paid…I was left in a big hole! My life was changed forever, and my credit was ruined by Fyre Fest,” she wrote.
“My only resource today is to appeal for help. There is an old saying that goes ‘bad publicity is better than no publicity’ and I pray that whoever reads this plea is able to assist,” Rolle added.
The page had received about $138,000 in donations as of Monday afternoon.
The Fyre Festival was originally scheduled to take place over two weekends in April and May 2017. The event was ultimately canceled, however, after the organizers were unable to provide proper food, housing, transportation and other services to attendees.
Rolle said she had entered a “good faith contract” with the festival’s founder, William McFarland, to make thousands of meals and provide housing to ticket holders, according to CBS News.
McFarland was ordered last year to pay more than $27 million to the Securities and Exchange Commission to settle fraud charges stemming from the failed festival.
