BBC cameraman shoved at Trump rally in El Paso

A man was captured on video shoving a BBC cameraman during President Trump’s rally in El Paso, Texas, late Monday.

Footage shows the man, who was wearing one of the president’s signature Make America Great Again hats, shove and swear at BBC cameraman Ron Skeans before being pulled away.

Skeans told the BBC that he was caught unaware by a “very hard shove” during the rally, adding that he “didn’t know what was going on.”

{mosads}BBC Washington correspondent Gary O’Donoghue, who was reporting on-camera at the rally, told BBC Radio 4’s Today that it was an “incredibly violent attack.”

“Fortunately, our cameraman is fine, he is made of stern stuff,” he continued. 

A spokeswoman for BBC told The Guardian in a statement that the cameraman was “violently pushed and shoved by a member of the crowd” while covering the event.

“The man was removed by security and Ron is fine. The president could see the incident and checked with us that all was OK,” the representative said. “It is clearly unacceptable for any of our staff to be attacked for doing their job.”

Trump also reportedly checked that Skeans was well by giving a thumbs up before he continued his speech.

According to the BBC, the incident occurred after Trump “heavily criticized the media at the rally.”

The president has long had a contentious relationship with the media, decrying outlets that critically cover his administration as “fake news” and repeatedly calling the press the “enemy of the American people.”
