Pro-EU panelist strips on Sky News to call attention to Brexit
A panelist and “Remain” campaigner on the UK’s Sky News turned heads after stripping partly naked on television Thursday night.
Journalist and television presenter Rachel Johnson took off her shirt in “tribute” to Victoria Bateman, a Cambridge University professor who has been campaigning naked to call attention to Brexit.
{mosads}“As I know, it can be hard to get your voice heard when talking about Brexit nowadays. It feels like we have hit saturation point,” Johnson said on Sky News debate show “The Pledge” before discussing Bateman’s ongoing nude media appearances.
The professor has been appearing completely naked to argue that Brexit will leave Britain “naked.” She has also challenged pro-Brexit MP Jacob Rees-Mogg to a naked debate, according to the Evening Standard.
As she began to unbutton her blouse, Johnson said she has “decided to follow suit … every time we talk about Brexit, just to make sure I get noticed around this table.”
As Johnson removed her shirt, her co-panelists can be heard laughing in surprise, with one exclaiming, “go Rachel!”
“Alright then, I’ll get dressed, I’ll put them away,” she said. “Someone else can tell us what’s coming up on the program.”
Johnson is the sister of Boris Johnson, a Brexit backer and former Foreign Secretary who resigned in July in protest of Prime Minister Theresa May’s approach to the so-called “divorce deal” between the UK and the European Union.
May has been struggling to win Parliament’s approval on her plan to leave the EU, which is scheduled to happen March 29, with or without a deal.
