Dog reunited with family more than 3 months after California wildfire
A dog in California was reunited with its family after being separated for more than 100 days due to the Camp Fire that burned down huge swaths of Northern California.
The 12-year-old Akita named Kingston was reunited with the Ballejos family of Paradise, Calif., on Sunday after 101 days apart, according to local news outlet ABC 10.
{mosads}”When I found out, [it] just about brought me to tears,” Gabriel Ballejos, Kingston’s owner, told the local outlet. “I’m so proud of him. I can’t believe it. He’s a true survivor, and it’s a testament to the American spirit.”
Kingston jumped out of the bed of a pickup truck when the family was forced to evacuate their home in November.
Paradise was devastated by the sweeping fire that killed at least 80 people and destroyed nearly 15,000 homes in the area.
A group of volunteers was able to find and trap Kingston Sunday after the dog spent weeks roaming the woods. Kingston was then taken to a local dog shelter and the family was notified.
“It’s an unbelievable story,” Ballejos said. “101 days he went missing he’s still here and used his survival skills and he’s a true survivor.”
