George Conway tweets poll asking if Trump or NYT is more credible

George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, is running a poll on Twitter asking whether respondents think President Trump or The New York Times has more credibility.

Of 168,283 votes cast since the poll was started Wednesday, about 93 percent sided with the Times, while 7 percent said the president has more credibility.

{mosads}The survey comes after Trump ripped the Times as “the enemy of the people” over an exclusive report the paper published detailing ways the president has sought to influence an array of investigations into himself and his allies.

“The New York Times reporting is false. They are a true ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!” the president tweeted, though he did not specifically refute any details from the article.

The Times, along with some other media outlets, has been a favorite target of Trump’s, who frequently turns to Twitter to excoriate his hometown newspaper, often calling it the “Failing New York Times.”

Conway has emerged as one of Trump’s loudest critics. He founded the group Checks and Balances in November to urge other conservative lawyers to speak out against the president. 

“We believe in the rule of law, the power of truth, the independence of the criminal justice system, the imperative of individual rights and the necessity of civil discourse,” the group said in a mission statement. “We believe these principles apply regardless of the party or persons in power.”
