Marine being investigated for allegedly sharing pro-Nazi images
The Marine Corps is reportedly investigating pro-Nazi imagery being shared from the social media account of an infantryman.
Task & Purpose reports the Marine Corps is investigating “derogatory online comments” from Lance Cpl. Mason Mead, whose account had several posts praising Nazis and included a picture of himself in blackface and another posted on his account where a uniformed person arranges explosives on a table in the form of a swastika with the caption “epic.”
{mosads}Mead is an infantry assault-man based in Hawaii and has since deactivated his Twitter account that contained the posts in question.
A spokesperson for the Marines told the news outlet that Mead is being “thoroughly investigated” by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).
NCIS spokesman Jeff Houston told The Hill it could not comment on an ongoing investigation or confirm any details involved.
Social media posts reviewed by Task & Purpose show several images shared by the Twitter account @Jacobite_Edward that reportedly belongs to Mead.
One post shows Mead in dark face paint with the caption “hello, fellow black men.”
“The Marine Corps is aware of the derogatory online comments attributed to a Marine with 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division,” 1st Lt. David Mancilla, a Marine Corps spokesman, told Task & Purpose.
“The Marine Corps takes every instance of misconduct seriously, whether on duty, off duty, or online. Any form of racism or discrimination undermines the core values of the Marine Corps and is not tolerated,” he said.
Another post showed Spanish General Francisco Franco and a Catholic official in a robe doing a Nazi salute, with Mead’s caption reading “I look at this image before sleep and smile.”

Another fascist, Nazi-admiring Marine outed last night. @lava_dogs’ LCpl. Mason Edward Mead of Birmingham, AL. Recent convert to radical traditionalist Catholic Society of St. Pius X, founded by Nazi sympathizer. Hoovered up his social media after a tip on Friday and it’s bad! pic.twitter.com/O7wSfyadrP
