Meghan McCain coins universal clapback with ‘Denise’ meme: ‘My gift to the internet’

Meghan McCain, known for her fiery responses to President Trump’s criticism of her father, has coined the internet’s new favorite clapback after responding to a critic on Twitter.

On Monday night, conservative commentator Denise McAllister shared an article criticizing “The View,” of which McCain is a co-host.

{mosads}“Can someone explain to me the purpose of The View?” McAllister wrote. “It seems to me to be a roundtable of delusional mental midgets ricocheting ignorance and lack of emotional regulation.”

McCain was quick to respond with the now widely memed line “you were at my wedding Denise.”

McAllister, a contributor for the conservative website The Federalist, run by McCain’s husband, later walked back her criticism, saying that her comment was not pointed at McCain directly.

But “you were at my wedding Denise” took on a life of its own, with Twitter users applying it to their personal lives, films and hypothetical scenarios.

McCain acknowledged the sentence’s popularity in a tweet, saying it “can be everyone’s clap back to everyone, everywhere, forever.”

“My gift to the internet,” she wrote. “Thank you for the support.”
