Trump slams Sununu during New Hampshire rally: ‘Spoiled brat’
Former President Trump dubbed Gov. Chris Sununu (R) a “spoiled brat” at a campaign rally in Durham, N.H., Saturday after the New Hampshire governor endorsed Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley earlier this week.
“I didn’t like your governor very much,” Trump said, which prompted the audience to boo. “He’s like a spoiled brat.”
Sununu gave Haley his endorsement while appearing at a town hall event, saying he is “all in,” and that Haley has the “momentum to win and get our party back on track.”
Trump said the governor was selfish and said he “liked his father, actually.” Sununu’s father, John Sununu, is the former White House Chief of Staff for former President George H. W. Bush. He also said slammed Sununu for endorsing “somebody that can’t win, has no chance of winning.”
According to polling in the state from The Hill’s partner Decision Desk HQ, Haley is in second place with 20.8 percent, behind Trump’s 45.9 percent.
Haley, who served as ambassador to the United Nations, has gained momentum thanks to several strong debate performances.
Sununu, who is serving his fourth term as governor, has been a vocal Trump critic and said Friday that a second Trump term would be filled with “chaos and distraction.” Republicans need to go with “the next generation of conservative leadership,” he added.
Sununu is extremely popular in New Hampshire, and strategists have told The Hill his endorsement may help independents consider casting their vote for Haley in the critical state.
