GOP lawmaker vows to catch those responsible for string of arsons at black churches in Louisiana

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) vowed on Tuesday to catch those responsible for burning three African-American churches in his home district.

“We intend to catch those responsible,” Higgins told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton.

“I encourage them to turn themselves in because wherever you are, you’re watching, you’re not going to get away. You’re not going to escape. We will catch you. We will arrest you. You will be incarcerated. So I advise you to turn yourself in,” he continued.

Three predominately African-American churches were burned in St. Landry Parish in Higgins’s district in Louisiana.

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal told The Daily Advertiser, a newspaper based in Lafayette, La., that the three arsons were connected.

Higgins said that it was a possibility that the arsons were an act of terror from white supremacists.

“That’s one of the possibilities, but as an investigator, what we do is we follow the evidence without prejudice or without presumed outcome,” the congressman said.
