MSNBC to relaunch ‘On Assignment’ series with foreign correspondent Richard Engel

MSNBC announced Wednesday it will relaunch a Sunday night series called “On Assignment with Richard Engel” hosted by the NBC News chief foreign correspondent.

Engel, who has earned several awards for his reports inside war zones over the years, will kick off his series on Sunday night with a one-on-one interview with former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon.

{mosads}Bannon, who also served as executive chairman of Breitbart News, recently has been critical of Pope Francis and has called for the creation of an independent tribunal to look into a myriad of scandals plaguing the Catholic church.

“This week’s program also features a new investigation into how Russians used social media to incite American citizens on Facebook, and a profile of Nobel Peace Prize-winner Dr. Denis Mukwege, also known as ‘Dr. Miracle,’ who has dedicated his life to treating rape victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” an NBC release also indicated.

Engel joined NBC News in 2003 to cover the Iraq War after serving as a freelance journalist for ABC News prior to that.

The 46-year-old is the author of the 2016 book, “And Then All Hell Broke Loose,” which chronicles his career in the Middle East covering the Irar War, Syrian War and Arab Spring.
