Black student body president seeking $1.5 million in damages from founder of neo-Nazi website

Taylor Dumpson, the first black woman elected student body president at American University, is asking a federal judge for $1.5 million in damages in her lawsuit against neo-Nazi website founder Andrew Anglin for his role in orchestrating a “troll storm” against her.

Dumpson’s attorneys, in a request filed Monday, asked a federal judge for a default judgement against Anglin, founder of The Daily Stormer, and a follower of his for allegedly racially harassing her on Twitter, according to The Associated Press.

Dumpson initially sued Anglin and Brian Ade last year, but neither responded to the lawsuit, so her attorneys are now asking the judge to make a decision on the incident.

{mosads}Dumpson is seeking more than $1.8 million in damages, fees and costs in total, including $1.5 million in punitive damages against Anglin and his company, Moonbase Holdings LLC.

In the lawsuit, Dumpson alleges The Daily Stormer posted her personal information in coverage about an alleged racist incident that took place on American University’s campus the same day she was elected student government president.

Someone reportedly hung bananas from nooses on campus and The Daily Stormer posted about the incident, including links to Dumpson’s personal social media pages, where she was subsequently harassed with a barrage of racist messages.

Earlier this month, a federal judge ordered Anglin to return to the U.S. for questioning related to a separate lawsuit alleging he instigated harassment.
