AG Barr to travel to El Salvador

Attorney General William Barr will travel to El Salvador Wednesday to discuss Department of Justice (DOJ) priorities with deployed DOJ officials and authorities from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. 

The priorities include stopping illegal narcotics, dismantling the MS-13 gang and other criminal groups, and fighting illegal immigration and human trafficking, the DOJ said in a statement. 

{mosads}Barr will also visit the International Law Enforcement Academy and participate in the Third Ministerial of the Northern Triangle Attorneys General to bolster the U.S. relationship with international law enforcement, officials said. 

“International cooperation is the key to countering the scourge of MS-13 and other vicious transnational criminal organizations,” Barr said in the statement.  “In order to incapacitate MS-13 and similar groups, we will use all lawful tools within and outside our borders to make sure these criminals face justice. This trip is an important step in furthering this Administration priority.”

The Trump administration has made cracking down on illegal immigration a priority. The State Department also announced in March that it would halt foreign aid to the so-called Northern Triangle countries over the large groups of migrants coming from those nations to the U.S.
