Northam’s medical school to reveal racist yearbook page image inquiry results

The university where Gov. Ralph Northam (D-Va.) attended medical school on Wednesday will announce the results of an inquiry into how a photo depicting men dressed in blackface and Ku Klux Klan robes ended up on Northam’s 1984 yearbook page. 

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) will hold a news conference on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. to announce the findings of a probe conducted by the McGuireWoods law firm into where the photo came from and the school’s culture at the time, EVMS spokeswoman Jennifer McCarrel told The Hill in a statement. 

Northam originally apologized for appearing in the photo, but later denied being in it and said that he did not know why it was on his yearbook page. He did admit to once darkening his skin to dress up as Michael Jackson. {mosads}

The racist photo was uncovered by conservative website Big League Politics and resulted in calls for Northam to step down following its publication. After the photo was revealed, the state’s attorney general also admitted to wearing blackface as a teenager. 

Around the same time, two women accused the state’s Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) of sexual assault. 

Northam has resisted calls for him to step down.
