Pelosi, Trudeau place bet on NBA finals
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday made a friendly wager with each other ahead of Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors.
If the Warriors, who currently face a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven series, manage to win three straight games to clinch their third consecutive NBA championship, Trudeau will send Pelosi a basket of Canadian-made goods.
{mosads}If the Raptors close out the series and win their first championship since being established in 1995, Pelosi will send the Canadian prime minister a selection of San Francisco’s Ghirardelli chocolate, along with California wine, almonds and walnuts.
“The Raptors are making history and they aren’t done yet. We’re going all the way, Canada. Ghirardelli chocolates and a glass of California wine are going to pair nicely with the Raptors’ first NBA title,” Trudeau said in a statement.
“We the North,” he added, the Raptors’ slogan.
Pelosi shot back at the prime minister.
“The only thing sweeter than watching Golden State once again become world champions is doing so while enjoying a selection of Canada’s finest. I am proud to be part of Dub Nation!” Pelosi said, referring to the Warriors fan base’s nickname.
Monday’s game will be held in Toronto, giving the Raptors a chance to secure Canada its first NBA title at home.
