NASA officials give remarks on recent lunar landing: Watch live
NASA and Intuitive Machines, a private spaceflight engineering company, are holding a joint news conference Wednesday to discuss last week’s successful landing of the robotic craft Odysseus on the moon.
The mission was the first of its kind for a U.S. team in 50 years.
The automated lander touched down near the moon’s South Pole, a region believed to contain reserves of water that could be an important resource for future exploration.
Odysseus’s mission reportedly ended a few days earlier than planned. The lander hit the ground at a slightly faster velocity than intended, causing it to topple onto its side.
It did, however, successfully transmit several images back to Earth.
The event is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. EST.
