Target giving teachers 15 percent off on classroom supplies for back-to-school shopping
Target is giving teachers a 15 percent discount on classroom supplies this summer to help them save on back-to-school shopping.
Officials at the retailer told USA Today that they would be launching the promotion for educators — including K-12 teachers, parents who homeschool their kids and daycare teachers — on July 15. The promotion will reportedly run for an entire week.
{mosads}Target senior vice president Jill Sando told the newspaper that the company decided to bring back the promotion, which initially rolled out last year, after receiving a “phenomenal response” from the last launch.
“I’m excited we’re bringing the event back again this year with an expanded assortment of items eligible for the 15% discount, helping teachers save and get what they need for the upcoming school year,” Sando said.
In order to be eligible to participate in the promotion, teachers are required to register online. The company says it “can take any document that ties your name and/or email address to an educational system” for its verification process.
Target will also allow educators who were unable to complete the verification process the chance to participate in the promotion if they are able to provide a local Target store employee with identification.
In a study released last year, nearly all public school teachers surveyed said they spent some of their own money to cover the costs of school supplies.
The report from the National Center of Education Statistics found that nearly all public school teachers spend on average close to $480 a year on school supplies, which is nearly double the $250 federal tax deduction available to teachers.
