Trump wins North Carolina GOP primary
Former President Trump has won North Carolina’s GOP presidential primary, according to a Decision Desk HQ projection.
The Republican front-runner for the nomination will pick up most of the Tarheel State’s 74 delegates. A little more than half are distributed based on the results of each of North Carolina’s 13 congressional districts, and the rest are based on candidates’ performances in the state overall.
Trump narrowly won the state in the Republican primary in the state in 2016 over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) but with less than a majority. He overwhelmingly won against marginal opposition in the state in 2020.
North Carolina will likely be a hotly contested swing state in the presidential race in November, with the state’s outcome being decided by just a few percentage points in each of the past few presidential elections.
