Youngkin throws support behind Trump: ‘It’s time to unite’

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) announced Thursday he’s endorsing former President Trump, one day after Nikki Haley dropped out of the race.

“Voters in the Commonwealth and across the county have spoken loudly for Donald J. Trump and I endorse him for President of the United States,” Youngkin said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“His record on border security, restoring American leadership around the world, reducing taxes and lowering the cost of living for all Americans stands in stark contrast to the open borders, failed leadership on the global stage, rampant inflation and higher costs of today,” he continued.

“It’s time to unite around strong leadership and policies that grow our great nation, not four more years of President Biden,” Youngkin added.

Trump thanked Youngkin for his endorsement in a statement on Truth Social.

“Thank you to Governor Glenn Youngkin. I look forward to working with this fantastic Governor to WIN THE GREAT STATE OF VIRGINIA ON NOVEMBER 5th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.

Haley dropped out of the GOP primary as she struggled to gain momentum on Super Tuesday.

The Virginia Republican’s endorsement is particularly notable given he’s been floated as a White House hopeful, though he opted against running this cycle.

Youngkin was not listed on a slate of Virginia GOP endorsements from the Trump campaign last week, suggesting Haley’s decision to drop out has all but forced any remaining holdouts to back the former president.
