Trump endorses Mace in South Carolina, touting lawmaker as ‘strong conservative voice’
Former President Trump officially announced he is backing Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) as she looks to win her reelection race in November.
In his post on TruthSocial where he shared the endorsement, Trump called her a “strong, conservative voice” who has worked “hard” to help Trump land his win in the South Carolina GOP primary.
“It is my great honor to Endorse a Strong Conservative Voice for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District,” Trump wrote on Saturday. “Nancy Mace worked hard campaigning across South Carolina in support of our Record-Breaking WIN.”
“In Congress, she is fighting to Secure the Border, Strengthen our Military, Support our Veterans, Uphold the Rule of Law, Stop Political Weaponization, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. Congresswoman Nancy Mace has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Trump’s endorsement of Mace comes as he beat former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley (R) in her home state. He landed a plethora of endorsements from GOP lawmakers representing the Palmetto State, like the current South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) and Sen. Tim Scott. (R-S.C.). Haley has since dropped out of the race.
Mace is looking to get reelected in the seat she has held since 2020. She has been critical of Trump in the past, going after the former president just days after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
In her 2022 race, she faced a tough primary against a Trump-backed challenger Katie Arrington, a former state lawmaker. Mace beat her in the primary and ended up winning the general contest.
Mace endorsed Trump in January, declining to support Haley who she campaigned with during her 2022 House reelection run.
This cycle, Mace is facing primary challengers from those who used to be in her orbit. Her former chief of staff, Dan Hanlon, has filed to run in the district along with former state agency official Catherine Templeton, who was endorsed by Arrington.
