Top NRA staffer exits amid turmoil: report

Another top aide has reportedly left the National Rifle Association (NRA) as the organization continues to face an internal crisis.

Jennifer Baker, the NRA’s longtime director of public affairs, is leaving her post, Politico reported Wednesday.

Baker, the outgoing top spokesperson for the organization, had worked for the organization for at least six years, according to Politico. Her name was still on the NRA’s website as a media contact as of Wednesday afternoon.{mosads}

“The NRA announced a reorganization of its public affairs function this week,” the NRA said in a statement to The Hill. “The change consolidates and improves our communications, public affairs, and social media functions. All these operations now operate under one department, eliminating a parallel function in NRA-ILA. We are excited about the change and the benefits it brings to the organization and its members.”

Baker’s  reported departure comes a month after Chris Cox, the NRA’s former top lobbyist, left his post. Cox, who launched his own consulting firm last week, left amid a scandal over accusations that he participated in unsuccessful extortion scheme against chief executive Wayne LaPierre.

The NRA is also facing investigations over campaign finance violations and questions over how effective it will be in the 2020 election. 

LaPierre has faced scrutiny over his spending of the organization’s money for personal reasons, as he reportedly spent $275,000 to buy clothes in California.
