Longtime journalist Cokie Roberts dies at age 75

ABC News, NPR and PBS journalist and political commentator Cokie Roberts has passed away at age 75 due to complications with breast cancer, according to an announcement from ABC. 

“Cokie Roberts will be dearly missed,” said James Goldston, president of ABC News. “Cokie’s kindness, generosity, sharp intellect and thoughtful take on the big issues of the day made ABC a better place and all of us better journalists.”

{mosads}From 1996 to 2002, Roberts co-anchored ABC’s “This Week” with Sam Donaldson. She also served as a political commentator and chief congressional analyst for “This Week” during her tenure at ABC dating back to 1988.

Roberts was a highly decorated journalist, having won three Emmys and the Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite awards, and was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame. She was also named one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting by the American Women in Radio and Television, while also being named a “Living Legend” by the Library of Congress 11 years ago.

Roberts, who lived in Bethesda, Md., was also a contributor to PBS’s “The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour” and served as NPR’s congressional correspondent for more than a decade.

She is survived by her husband, journalist Steven Roberts, and her children, Lee and Rebecca, along with six grandchildren.

“We will miss Cokie beyond measure, both for her contributions and for her love and kindness,” her family said in a statement.
