Fox’s Bartiromo calls out Mace for preaching unity: ‘Isn’t it rich’
Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo pressed Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) about her push for unity in the GOP after she supported the ouster of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) last year.
“With all due respect congresswoman, isn’t it rich for you to say you want to unite when you are actually one of the people who joined with a small group to take down your leader?” the host asked Mace during an appearance on her show Monday. “You’ve been a firebrand, and I certainly appreciate that and pushing for what the American people want, but we’ll see if your constituents actually like this.”
Mace is facing a primary challenger this week amid blowback stemming from allegations of flip-flopping on key issues and criticism over her shifting support for former President Trump.
“I’m feeling very cautiously optimistic about tomorrow. As you know, I’m the first woman to graduate from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, where when I was a cadet. We ate honesty and integrity for breakfast. And I want a leader that I can trust,” Mace said.
The Republican said she trusts House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and added she has “no regrets” about participating in the effort to oust McCarthy.
“I work very hard for the people of South Carolina. And I believe you’ll see the results of that hard work tomorrow when the election is called, I think early in the night,” she continued. “And I think it’s really important that when we talk about dividing the party — it’s Kevin McCarthy, he spent $7 million against me in my Republican primary. That money could be spent to help Donald Trump.”
