CDC identifies additional 27 people with illnesses linked to romaine lettuce

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified an additional 27 people with infections linked to romaine lettuce, bringing the total number to 67.

The 67 cases related to the E.coli outbreak were in 19 different states and resulted in 39 hospitalizations, the CDC said in a Tuesday update

The CDC warned consumers last week to avoid romaine lettuce harvested in the Salinas, Calif., region. It said at the time that there had been 40 reported cases of E.coli across 16 different states.

More than 75,000 pounds of packaged salad products were also recalled last week.

According to the CDC, there have not been any fatalities connected to the outbreak.
