Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling and others to serve as hosts at DNC
Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington, Ana Navarro and Tony Goldwyn will serve as hosts for the Democratic National Convention this week, convention officials confirmed.
Each celebrity will host one night of the four-day convention in Chicago and will help guide audiences in the event hall and on television through the programming, officials told The Hill on Sunday.
Goldwyn is on tap for Monday night, Navarro on Tuesday, Kaling on Wednesday and Washington on Thursday.
CNN was first to report the entertainment host selections.
Each figure was picked for their past support of the Democratic Party and its candidates, organizers said.
Washington, the former “Scandal” star, is the founder of the political activism organization Influence Change, which is focused on celebrities promoting civil activism, and opened the third night of the Democratic convention in 2020. Earlier this year, she teamed up with former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) as co-chairs for an advisory council for Power the Polls for an effort to recruit poll workers ahead of November.
Goldwyn, who was also featured in the ABC drama “Scandal” as the president, is also a Democratic activist and backed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential bid.
Kaling, known for her hit roles in the TV show “The Office” and Disney’s “Inside Out,” has been featured alongside Vice President Harris for various appearances, including in 2020 when then-Sen. Harris (Calif.) hosted a virtual Hollywood campaign event for President Biden’s 2020 presidential run.
In 2019, Kaling appeared on Harris’s YouTube channel, where the two cooked masala dosa and discussed their Indian heritage.
Navarro, a Republican strategist and co-host of ABC’s “The View,” has increasingly supported the Democratic Party in recent years, especially since former President Trump’s entrance into politics, Deadline reported.
She shared the news of her upcoming appearance at the convention in an Instagram video Sunday night.
“I can’t tell you how much it means to me,” Navarro said in the video. “I’m a little refugee girl who fled communism, who fled Nicaragua at the age of 8, found freedom, found opportunity, found a home in America, and for me to have the chance to stand on that stage and help my girl, Kamala, make history and become the Democratic nominee, it’s just such a mind-blowing moment.”
The convention will feature a host of political speakers for the four-day event, ranging from current White House, congressional and state leaders to past presidents.
Biden will kick off the event Monday night with opening remarks, and Harris will close out the convention Thursday with her presidential nomination acceptance speech.
