Obama on Project 2025: ‘Not the kind of America that I think we’d want to live in’

Former President Obama is criticizing the conservative agenda known as Project 2025, warning that the outline is meant to take away the freedoms of Americans.

Obama appeared on the “I’ve Had it” podcast with hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan, where he played a game of “Had It or Hit It?” with the two hosts. During the game, he was asked about his thoughts on Project 2025.

“We’ve had it with the ideas that are in this — for those who aren’t familiar with it, but you guys have been educating them — this is an agenda that’s been put together that would soup-to-nuts, take away rights and freedoms that so many of us take for granted, that would dismantle vital programs and services like the Department of Education,” he answered.

“It’s not the kind of America that I think we’d want to live in,” he added.

Former President Trump and his campaign have tried to distance themselves from Project 2025, a 900-page hard-right policy blueprint for the next GOP administration.

The Harris campaign has continued to target Trump over the playbook by arguing that the outline demonstrates what a potential second term for Trump can look like.

Obama warned in the podcast episode that aired Thursday that Project 2025 could take away the rights and freedoms of Americans.

“If you are a patriot and you believe in freedom, well, part of the freedom that we have fought and died for, is the freedom to make sure that everybody’s treated equally, that women have control over their own bodies, that everybody has the opportunity to get a job and work hard and make something of themselves,” he said.

“And that when they’re down on their luck or something happens, we as a community come together and pick them up. And that’s not what Project 2025 stands for and we sure can’t have it in the White House,” he added.

He was then asked whether he saw that “Project 2025 HQ” was projected onto the Chicago Trump Tower during the Democratic National Convention last month.

“I didn’t see it. I had nothing to do with it,” he quipped as he laughed with the hosts, who said it was a “high quality troll.”
