Kim Kardashian advocates for release of Menendez brothers in personal essay

Reality star mogul Kim Kardashian said in a personal essay published by NBC News on Thursday that the court case of the Menendez brothers, who were charged with first-degree murder in the 90s in connection with the murder of their parents, should be “reconsidered.”

“We owe it to those little boys who lost their childhoods, who never had a chance to be heard, helped or saved,” Kardashian, a criminal justice reform advocate, wrote in the essay.

Kardashian also said that she has spent time with both Lyle and Erik Menendez and that they “are not monsters.”

“They are kind, intelligent, and honest men. In prison, they both have exemplary disciplinary records,” she wrote.

Kardashian’s essay was published on the same day that Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced at a press conference that his office would review what he said was new evidence that the Menendez brothers were allegedly molested.

“We have not decided on the outcome. We are reviewing the information. But I think it’s also important that we recognize that both men and women can be the victims of sexual assault,” Gascón said during the press conference.

During the press conference, Gascón claimed that his office received a letter from one of the brothers to another family member outlining that he is the victim of molestation.

Gascón said that none of the information had been confirmed, but that his office does have “a moral and ethical obligation to review what is being presented” to it.

Kardashian mentioned the alleged abuse in her essay.

“Following years of abuse and a real fear for their lives, Erik and Lyle chose what they thought at the time was their only way out — an unimaginable way to escape their living nightmare,” she wrote.

The new developments in the case come as a Netflix series called “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” has become popular on the streaming service in recent weeks.
