New York City offices of Mediaite, Law and Crime Network robbed
The New York City offices of Mediaite and Law & Crime Network were robbed over the weekend, the outlets reported Wednesday.
Calling it “one of the most meta crimes ever committed” in a story on the incident, Mediaite reported a suspect stole thousands of dollars worth of property from the Manhattan office building after gaining access to the facility as a courier.
The suspect was seen on security cameras inside the offices “wearing a courier’s vest and going through what appeared to be every single desk drawer in the office and adjoining production studio,” the outlet reported.
Mediaite owner Dan Abrams played security footage of the incident Wednesday evening during his prime-time show on NewsNation.
The suspect stole what the company estimated to be around $30,000 worth of laptops, tablets and other production equipment.
Police arrested the suspect after he attempted to pawn some stolen merchandise at a pawn shop in New Jersey.
The owner of the pawn shop spoke about the visit on Abrams’s show.
“Well, when he kept unloading MacBook after MacBook after iPad … you start to realize, OK, like where is this stuff coming from?” store owner Adam Hady told Abrams. “And then I asked him, and he told me he found it in a dumpster. So, right then and there, you have red flags jumping out left and right.”
Local New York station PIX11 reported the suspect is being held at the Monmouth County Jail and is expected to be extradited to New York to face burglary charges.
