Dan Turton was named senior vice president of global government affairs at Tyson Foods Inc., effective Monday. He previously was senior adviser for Democrats on the House Rules Committee. Before that he was vice president of North American public policy at General Motors Co. He also served as deputy assistant to former President Obama in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs.
Philip Morris International Inc. hired Moyer McCoy as manager of external affairs. McCoy was previously senior legislative assistant and clerk for the Democrats on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight for more than two years. Before that, he was a committee clerk and legislative assistant for Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee.
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) announced that Michelle Duke will be the group’s chief diversity officer, effective July 1. The NAB created the position to spearhead internal efforts to further inclusion and to elevate its role as a resource to member companies in their efforts to increase diversity. Duke has been president of the NAB Leadership Foundation for a year and will continue serving in that role alongside her new position.
The American Soybean Association hired Scott Gerlt as its first in-house economist. Gerlt previously worked on policy at the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute for more than a decade.
Defense contracting company Cobalt Technical Solutions announced it’s expanding to include business strategy and public affairs consulting for health care and defense clients. The expansion will be led by founder and President Andrew Platt and L.D. Platt, principal of business strategy, who worked as vice president of external affairs communications at UnitedHealth Group before joining Cobalt in January. Prior to UnitedHealth, Platt was vice president of external affairs at America’s Health Insurance Plans.
