14 Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants test positive for coronavirus

Fourteen flight attendants who recently attended a Hawaiian Airlines training in Honolulu tested positive for COVID-19, the airline said Tuesday. 

The flight attendants that tested positive are now in quarantine and the airline has temporarily canceled its training to deep clean its facilities, a spokesperson for the airline told The Hill. 

“We are supporting our team members in their recovery, and other employees involved in the training have been self-monitoring their health; in accordance with CDC and state Department of Health guidance provided to us,” Alex Da Silva, an airline spokesperson, said in a statement, referring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

Guests on Hawaiian Airlines flights are required to wear face masks that cover their mouths and noses while boarding and during the duration of flights, and Hawaiian Airlines’s employees also wear face masks when interacting with guests, according to the airline’s website. 

The airline has said it will resume a reduced schedule between Hawaii and the mainland U.S. starting Aug. 1. 

Hawaii has had a relatively low case count compared to other U.S. states. There’s a total of 1,030 coronavirus cases and 19 deaths, according to state data. 

Hawaii will require visitors to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test to avoid a mandatory 14-day self quarantine starting Aug. 1.
